Common Causes

The causes for a cat skin condition and dog skin allergies are varied and both environmental and biological. Fleas are a very common cause of allergic skin conditions in pets, while other triggers for chronic irritation can include foods, seasonal pollen, dust mites and even grasses. In most instances, it is probable that several factors are causing your pet’s skin allergy, and this is why it is important to see a vet for accurate treatment for this.

Dog Skin Allergy Treatment in Thornlands

Signs to Watch For

It is important to recognise symptoms in pets of the initial stages of skin allergies to enable treatment before a significant condition arises, which could potentially cause further skin problems or lead to infection. Signs that indicate a cat or dog skin allergy include consistent scratching, licking and chewing of affected areas; patches of redness on the skin; inflammation of the area and hair loss; and other skin infections.

Skin Allergy Diagnosis

We will assess and provide appropriate dog skin allergy treatment or cat allergy treatment once we have examined and made a diagnosis about your pet’s condition. We will use any diagnostic tests, as appropriate, to identify the trigger of the allergy if one can be determined at this time.

Potential Treatments

Depending on the severity of your pet’s allergy and the cause, treatment would apply. An example could be targeted dog skin allergy treatment, where the patient may receive medication or a special dog skin allergy shampoo, and dietary changes for food allergies. When it comes to cat allergies, a special cat allergy medication may also be used in conjunction with other forms of support for both their skin and to reduce itching/inflammation. Some long-term maintenance of a condition may be necessary.

Ongoing Care

An allergic skin condition is often a long-term condition in dogs and cats which requires ongoing supervision and adjustment to treatments. The ongoing maintenance should include regular vet visits, during which the treatment protocol can be monitored and adjusted to help your pet maintain their comfort. To avoid an allergic skin condition flaring up, it is important to use preventative treatments.

Keep Your Pet Comfortable

It is always best to treat any allergic skin condition your pet is experiencing as quickly as possible and provide maintenance for the ongoing care of your pet to restore their comfort.
